Our Story
IID was established as a non-profit research arm working in synergy with Infrastructure Systems Limited to deepen policy research, institutional development and knowledge dissemination across Africa.
From masterplanning industrial corridors to designing financing mechanisms, IID has contributed to transformative development frameworks.

GOVERNANCE & LEADERSHIP
Board of Trustees
Stewards of Institutional Integrity and Long-Term Vision
The Board of Trustees provides strategic oversight, governance direction and fiduciary stewardship for the Institute for Infrastructure Development (IID).
Comprising distinguished professionals from infrastructure, finance, academia, law, engineering, and public policy, the Board ensures that IID remains independent, mission-driven, and globally credible.
The Trustees guide long-term strategy, safeguard research integrity and ensure that the Institute operates to the highest standards of accountability, transparency and institutional excellence.
Executive Director
Within IID’s governance structure, the Executive Director provides strategic leadership for the Institute’s research agenda and programme implementation, ensuring alignment between long-term development vision and practical national transformation strategies.
Working with the Board of Trustees, Research Fellows and Advisory Council, the Executive Director guides the Institute’s efforts to design integrated infrastructure and industrial development frameworks that support productivity growth and long-term economic transformation.
Charles K. Boakye currently serves as the Founding Executive Director of the Institute for Infrastructure Development (IID).
Research Fellows
Driving Evidence-Based Infrastructure Intelligence
IID’s Research Fellows are multidisciplinary experts in infrastructure planning, industrial systems, finance, energy policy, environmental sustainability, and institutional governance.
The Fellowship comprises senior researchers, technical specialists, policy analysts, and emerging scholars committed to rigorous research and practical solutions.
Together, they:
- Development of national masterplans
- Feasibility and systems modelling
- Support to government and industry stakeholders
- Financing and institutional frameworks
- Policy briefs and white papers
The Council ensures that IID’s work reflects international best practice while remaining deeply rooted in African realities and priorities.
Advisory Council
Global Perspective. African Focus
The Advisory Council brings together eminent industry leaders, economists, infrastructure financiers, development practitioners and institutional reform experts.
Members of the Council provide strategic counsel that strengthens IID’s research agenda, policy frameworks and institutional partnerships.
The Council ensures that IID’s work reflects international best practice while remaining deeply rooted in African realities and priorities.
